slow beauty// herbal foot bath

Recipe shared with permission from Erin Lovell Verinder, featured in her beautiful book Plants for the People.

“Use aromatic herbs for this wonderfully simple ritual. You want to ignite the senses and bring all parts of your being into the present moment. This is a powerful act of self-care- enjoy it!

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons blended herbs
  • water

Equipment:

  • Large saucepan
  • Basin (large enough to accommodate your feet)
  • Comfy Chair
  • Towel

Add your herbs to the saucepan and fill with water. Bring to a rapid boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes with the lid on to keep in the volatile aromatic elements of the plants. Remove from the heat and strain out the herbs, if desired, or keep them happily floating around as you pour the mix into the basin.

Add cold water to the mix to ensure the foot bath is comfortable but still as hot as possible.

Position yourself comfortably in your favorite chair, with a towel alongside for drying your feet when you are finished. Gently immerse your feet in the basin- ideally the water will be deep enough to cover your ankles. Relax, breathe, unwind.

Stay here as long as you need to - at least 10 minutes is ideal.”
